My mother is black and my father is white and I have light skin. When we’re all together, people don’t believe that she’s my mother. When I was little and we were together and I called her mom, a lot of times she heard people who thought it cute that I called my babysitter “mom.” I’M TIRED of having to explain my mother’s background.
