BÁRBARA (BABU) DISSE: "I’m tired of always being the maid on TV."

Before anything else, I value and I know that the housekeeping profession is dignified in every respect. I want to call attention to another issue. My indignation comes from the fact that us, we blacks, never exercise roles and professions on TV that are considered elite by society like: doctors, lawyers … Black people always stereotyped as the poor person, thief, slave … As if in real life we don’t have other professions  or other options. We don’t have a reference. In common understanding only whites can be part of this intellectual and social elite.
