I’m the ex-consul from France and I’m used to receiving up to 6,000 people per year in the consular residence, and French protocol insists that I always be at the entrance to welcome guests to the consulate. Many time some people would go right by me thinking that I was an employee, but even if I were, I wouldn’t want to be invisible.
